The 5 most important old ones in the mythos
In the world of Lovecraftian myths, there are beings known as the Great Old Ones, creatures that represent cosmic entities of great power and mystery. Among these beings, five of the most important stand out: Cthulhu, Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, Shub-Niggurath, and Yog-Sothoth.
Cthulhu
Cthulhu is described as an extraterrestrial creature with unique physical characteristics, similar to a god for humans. Its scaly body and its ability to sleep for eons make it practically indestructible, being one of the conquerors of Earth.
Azathoth
Azathoth is known as the chaos engine and the antithesis of creation, which is described as a colossal and chaotic mass that is an essential part of the universe. Although blind and lobotomized, it represents omnipotence in its purest form.
Nyarlathotep
Nyarlathotep is one of the few Great Old Ones that can act freely and is distinguished by its strange and manipulative behavior towards humans. He is the emissary of the Other Gods and servant of Azathoth, capable of appearing in a thousand different avatars.
Shub-Niggurath
Shub-Niggurath, also known as The Black Goat of the Woods, is a fertility deity described as a huge nebulous mass with tentacles and goat-like legs. Although not described in detail in Lovecraft's stories, she is considered one of the most perverse deities.
Yog-Sothoth
Yog-Sothoth is an outer god connected with all time and space, being the guardian of the entrance to other dimensions. It is attributed the knowledge of everything and it is said that pleasing him can bring great wisdom, although learning too much from him can bring fatal consequences.
