Biography of H.P. Lovecraft

H.P. Lovecraft, born in Providence on August 20, 1890 and died on March 15, 1937, was a prominent American writer known for his horror and science fiction stories. He is recognized for his innovation in the horror story, contributing to the Mythos of Cthulhu in collaboration with other authors. His work stands out for cosmic horror, straying away from traditional supernatural stories and including elements of science fiction such as alien races and alternate dimensions.

Lovecraft was a lonely and prodigious child, developing his imagination and passion for literature early on. His childhood was marked by his father's mental illness and his mother's severe protection. Educated primarily through self-study, he showed talent in poetry, reading, and writing from a young age. Despite difficulties, he continued his education by participating in literary associations and writing for magazines.

After his mother's death, Lovecraft went through a complicated period, with failed marriages and economic difficulties in New York. Eventually, he returned to Providence where he created his most important works, facing health problems and poverty. In his later years, his health deteriorated, and he passed away at the age of 46 due to intestinal cancer and renal complications. Lovecraft left behind a unique literary legacy and a group of followers who still remember him today as a master of horror.
